More Interesting

In the animal kingdom, certain species attract their mates and invite others into their inner circles by being flashy and colorful or loud and aggressive. Birds squawk raucously and sport bright feathers, while large mammals fight unwanted members off with their antlers or tusks. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and only the strong and most boisterous survive.

Humans, also, move in packs. We like to socialize; we interact with each other both personally and professionally on a daily basis. But the good news is that we don’t have to be the loudest, most aggressive, and most flashy to attract others into our inner circle. Being interesting means being true to ourselves. Capturing people’s attention isn’t just about what we do and how we look, it’s also about what we don’t do. Below are some ways in which you can be more enthralling and capture the attention of others.

Be Interested

Self-indulgence is a put off; it irritates people and naturally turns them away. Don’t use up too much conversation time to talk about yourself, instead take a genuine interest in others. Not only will they appreciate the gesture, but they’ll remember you for your authenticity, your thoughtfulness, and your willingness to be a part of other people’s lives.

Pay Attention to Body Language

Sometimes it’s not that people aren’t interested in you, it’s that they believe you aren’t interested in getting to know them. Closed-off body language, such as hunched shoulders, a downcast head, or arms folded across the chest can lead a person to think you’re closing off your world to others and you’d rather be left alone. Be approachable. Stand tall with your head high, make eye contact and smile warmly.

Balance Your Self-Disclosure

Being ultra revealing can be uncomfortable for others, but not letting anyone into your life at all can send the message that you’re too private to get to know on a friendly level. Share with others some intriguing facts about yourself; it’s okay to talk about your hobbies or the things that interest you. Avoid revealing information that you wouldn’t want to hear from others, including anything too private or topics that can start an argument. Giving people just enough will leave them wanting more, and you’ll be laying the foundation for a lasting relationship that can grow into a more personal friendship as time goes on.

Be Attuned

Instead of just listening to people, try to empathize with their situation by putting yourself in their shoes. This has the power to make their stories more real, their jokes more humorous, and their experiences more valuable to you. And if you’re attuned to their body language and the manner in which they speak, you can assess their level of comfortability and adjust your conversation style as needed. This keeps the interaction fluid, and you can both find a common ground much sooner than if you weren’t attuned.

Rock Your Style

The truth is, you can sometimes judge a book by its cover. People do form opinions of you from the moment they meet you, and a first impression can go a long way. It’s important to be a good person from within, but you can sway people’s interest in you by how you you are on the outside as well as the inside. Be an individual, be strong and confident in what you wear and how you carry yourself. Always be you.

A Social Planet

We are social creatures. Whether we want to build a family, maintain a solid group of friends, or be well-liked professionally, we are always working on maintaining a positive code of interaction to attract the best relationships. Even the most fleeting of social gatherings can bud into lasting friendships, so it’s important to be respectful of others, to listen to them, to enthrall them, and to warmly invite them into your inner circle. Be memorable by being you, be genuine to yourself, and capture people’s interest with your authenticity and thoughtfulness.

Cheers to being more interesting,
